STARTING AIKIDO begins simply with interest and a desire to learn. Beginning students are accepted into the dojo at all times and can join any class. All new students start slowly and progress at their own pace. Required clothing is a loose sweatsuit with a long-sleeve top or a martial arts uniform (available at the dojo) with a white belt. Beginners get individual attention from the instructor and senior students so that they become familiar with the basics of Aikido practice.
“Those who seek to study Aikido should open their minds; listen to the sincerity of the spirit of the universe through Aiki, and practice. Willingly begin the cultivation of your spirit by practice and you will improve without hindrance. Aikido is not for correcting others; it is for correcting your own mind. This is the mission of Aikido and should be your mission.” – O-Sensei
GETTING STARTED – New students can start in any class. It is recommended that you attend at least twice per week. As a dojo member, however, you may attend as often as you’d like. Classes are between 1 hour and 1.5 hours long. Don’t be concerned if you’re out of shape or if the techniques look too difficult; there’ll be other beginners like yourself in class and each class results in progress.
We really hope that you decide to join us. It was once said, “The hardest part of any journey is taking the first step.” Congratulations, you have already taken it!
You are welcome to come and watch a class anytime.
