Steve Sensei started practicing Aikido in 2002 and he began teaching in 2008. As a 30-year ordained minister and student of Christian theology, Steve was looking for a way to defend himself and his family without causing his attacker unnecessary harm. He first started doing Aikido with his 10-year-old daughter and has been hooked ever since.
For Steve, Aikido provides exercise and a healthy way of dealing with the stress of the work week. He enjoys the mental and physical challenge of learning to do techniques effectively. His love of teaching comes from a desire to share what he knows with others. “I love seeing my students learn ways to be safe in a world that is often not very safe.”
Steve became an Assistant Instructor in 2009. He has been awarded Shidoin Certification by the Takemusu Aikido Association. Since 2023 he has been teaching Aikido at the University of Mary Washington.
